The Alienist, a Dark bitter Sherlock Holmes

The Alienist has follows the cliché of Sherlock Holmes. An intelligent doctor-detective, a male friend-assistant and a few female characters,  but its atmosphere and characters are deep, bitter, brutal and dark. There is no room for jokes and funny surprises like what we see in Sherlock. Instead, there are hideous scenes and vicious characters around victims who are young boys.
