The Witcher Is Coming Back Better in Season 2

Finally, the actors originally wanted to play as Vesemir in The Witcher is revealed. After a lot of speculation about the actor who would play the character in the series’ second season, it was announced that Kim Bodnia the star of Killing Eve would be the chosen one.

However, some reports revealed that Bodnia was not the first choice for the character. It’s reported that casting directors proposed the role to Hollywood stars Michael Keaton and Mads Mikkelsen but they both passed it up.

Attractive character Vesemir is a friend and mentor to the Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill) the lead character of The Witcher. Bodnia’s casting was well received by viewers of the show first released in December 2019.

Kristofer Hivju who played Tormund Giantsbane in Game of Thrones, also joined the season two cast before the production coming to an end due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, the showrunner of The Witcher recently announced that following fan criticism, the new season will introduce a significant timeline change. He talked about the decision in a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) last month, stating: “The narrative structure was put in place so that we could tell Geralt’s short stories (the foundation of the whole Witcher world, in my opinion), while Ciri and Yennefer could also be a part of the action.

Despite the huge expectation created by vast advertising by Netflix, The Witcher was not anything near Game of Thrones. Even though having a successful video game behind The Witcher could help it to be placed on the top of the TV series of 2019-2020. Surely it is attractive for fans of its video game and that’s why it could get 8.3 on IMDB, but for many other viewers, the crippled plot of the series was disturbing. A flaw that Hissrich promised to improve in the coming season.

Fortunately, during that month and in the period before the pandemic shutdown, lot of details was gathered about the season two.

The major change happened as a result of adapting the first full novel in Andrzej Sapkowski’s Witcher Saga, titled Blood of Elves. The upcoming season will expand the world called “The Continent” with a number of new actors and storylines and explore the relationships of Geralt, Ciri and Yennefer.

Though the castings of Nivellen and Vereena suggest the short story may be recreated faithfully, one major difference has already been confirmed. Geralt was alone in the books, when he first met Nivellen. In the series, however, he will be joined by his adopted daughter Ciri. Surely that will affect the events within the mansion. If you’re craving more Witcher content and can’t wait for season two, you should definitely read the book containing this short story, The Last Wish.
